In the beginning of the 2010-11 NBA season, no one expect the
Mavericks to be a contender for the NBA Title.
Critics just figured that the Mavs would choke, like they have done in
the past. But this season the Mavs quieted all of the critics and won the NBA
Championship.

The 2011 NBA Playoffs were one of the most watched playoff
series in years. TV ratings were through the roof for the 2011 NBA Playoffs.
Game 6 of the NBA Finals was the highest rated game 6 ever. So, were the 2011
NBA Playoffs the best of all time?

The NBA Playoffs had some great match ups and some big upsets.
One of the biggest upset and best series was the Memphis Grizzlies against the
San Antonio Spurs. The Memphis Grizzlies made history by knocking off the
number one seeded San Antonio Spurs. They continue their historic run by pushing
the Oklahoma City Thunder to a game seven in their best of seven series. The
Grizzlies lost game seven, but during their run they gave the city of Memphis joy and made the
city proud.

The Miami Heat struggle during the regular season and didn’t
seem to have enough to get the ring that they had promise the world back in
July. But the Heat was able to pull it together and became Eastern Conference
Champs. The Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls for the Eastern Conference crown.
The Chicago Bulls were lead by the league’s youngest player to win the regular season MVP,
Derrick Rose. Rose led the Bulls to the league’s best record and brought back
the madness at the Mad House(The United Center).

The Dallas Mavericks were predicted to lose in the first
round of the playoffs to the Portland Trailblazers. The prediction was wrong
and Mavericks beat the Blazers and move on to the next round to face the
defending champs, the Los Angeles Lakers. The second round predictions were just
like the first round for the Mavericks, they where predicted to lose again. Everyone
predicted the Lakers to defend their title, but the Mavs had other plans. The
Mavericks went on to sweep the Lakers and advance to the Western Conference
Finals to face Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Mavericks beat the Thunder to move on to the NBA Finals.
The Mavericks were set to face the same team that they lost to five years ago in
the finals. The Mavs blew a 2-0 lead to the Heat in the finals back in 2006.
This year, the Heat blew a 2-1 lead to the Mavericks. It is safe to say the
Mavericks got their revenge.

So the question is, were the 2011 NBA Playoffs the best
playoff ever? I believe the 2011 NBA Playoffs were the best playoffs that I
have ever seen. Each round was action pack. The playoffs had great individual match
ups as well as team match ups. The 2011 NBA Season was a great season, ratings
increase, merchandise sales went up, new stars were found and the Knicks made
the playoffs. The NBA finally has a great team in place in each of their big
markets and their small market teams are selling out their arenas. The NBA is in a
great state right now and it would be a terrible time for a lockout. So please
NBA, NO LOCKOUT!

  1. I hope they don’t lock out. I have to say for the past couple of years the NBA playoffs has gotten better and better. I think next year go be even crazier. You already know Miami go grab the headlines, but if Chicago can make the right moves…watch out! I want to see what the Knicks go do as well. I don’t think they will have a shot at winning it all, but I think they’ll make a couple teams sweat. I think Boston is done as well as Orlando. This summer is go be all about D. Howard. Overall these playoffs was Fantastic (In my Magic Johnson voice). When the last time you remember the 1 vs 8 in both conferences being competitive?
