The Back 9

The college basketball season is long and can be very emotional for those who love their team. Every possession, every shot, and every game matters to them. But does it matter?

What matters in college basketball? Is every game important? Or is it how you finish the season? There is only one winner at the end of the year.

So how do we answer this question? How do we find the right answer? Maybe we can use a theory of equations.

I believe the college basketball season is very similar to a round of golf. A round of golf can be extremely fun or extremely frustrating. A basketball season can be the same. Basketball is fun when your team is winning. It gives you so much joy but it can also give you pain. The kind of pain you feel when the Memphis Tigers lose two games back-to-back after finally cracking the AP Top 10. The pain is very similar to missing a crucial putt or hitting your tee shot out of bounds.

The game of basketball can break your heart but the Silverline is the Tigers still have more games to play. Their round of golf is not over yet. A round of golf consists of 18 holes. It’s vital to get off to a good start, but if you don’t, it is not the end of the world. But it is pivotal to stay consistent. Unfortunately, bad things will happen on the golf course and in a basketball season. You just have to keep moving forward. On to the next play. On to the next game. Learn from it and stay positive.

The Tigers are at “The Turn”. The Turn is the halfway point during a round of golf. It’s when you are done with the first nine holes and heading to the finish line, The Back 9. The Front 9 is over. The Tigers still have nine holes to play. They still have games to play. They control their future.
