While this achievement might be expected to bring joy to every Memphian, there is an unusual feeling in the city. We’ve experienced similar high hopes with different teams at various times, but unfortunately, we have often ended up feeling disappointed.
Last season, the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team was ranked in the top 10 but did not qualify for March Madness.
Tigers Men’s football team had expectations of this to make the college football playoff. They fell short but they finished the season with 10 wins for the second consecutive season.
We have also been in this situation with the Memphis Grizzlies. The team finished the season in second place in the Western Conference for two consecutive years but only reached the second round once.
